Creative Living

March 29, 2009

The times when I have most intensely felt and experienced the inner reality of creation have been those times when I have thrown myself wholeheartedly into a task, when I have carried through with that task to the very end. At such times, I experience a dramatically expanded sense of self. I can almost hear the joyous yell of victory issuing from the depths of my being.

Towards May 3rd, Soka Gakkai Day

SGI President Ikeda’s Essay
The Deepest of Commitments

Recalling the 1951 inauguration of Josei Toda as president of the Soka Gakkai: ‘True unity is the joint struggle of courageous individuals who share and put into action the stand-alone spirit,” writes SGI President Ikeda, under the pen name of Ho Goku. “In such unity lies the key to achieving the unprecedented undertaking of kosen-rufu.”

That day, an intrepid lion arose. On May 3, 1951, Josei Toda was inaugurated as the second Soka Gakkai president. A mighty roar for the propagation of Buddhism — for the sake of world peace and the happiness of all humanity — reverberated across the land: “I will give my life for the propagation of Buddhism! I vow to convert, through my own efforts, 750,000 households during my lifetime!”

Towards Chapter Friendship Gathering!

April 17, 2008

We held our Chapter/ District leaders meeting today. 🙂

We learn that the heart is the most important.

In order to win in any battle,
1. Be in the same heart and mind as our mentor (师弟不二的精神).
2. Have the stand alone spirit (一人立起的精神).
2. Have the never-be-defeated spirit (不败的精神).

When giving encouragement to fellow members, let’s remember to:
1. Share with our hearts
2. Give hope
3. Base on teachings of faith

Also, check out Chapter Friendship Gathering (also on sidebar navigation)!

Ikeda Sensei says, “Soka Gakkai members, who strive valiantly to fulfill their precious missions in their own ‘corner of the land’ day after day, year after year, illuminating all around them with the light of the Mystic Law, are the supreme treasures of the nation. This is no more noble treasure in the world than a person of strong faith.”

Singapore President Nathan Sends Birthday Message to SGI President Ikeda

February 6, 2008

On January 14, Republic of Singapore President S R Nathan sent a belated birthday message to SGI President Daisaku Ikeda. It reads as follows:

Dear Mr Ikeda,

Congratulations on the joyous occasion of your 80th birthday.

The Soka Association in Singapore has made valuable contributions to our community over the years. Their work is in furtherance of your personal philosphy for the Soka Movement, ie to promote universal understanding to the benefit of all. Your vision, and your leadership of the Soka Gakkai International and committment to the humanitarian causes around the world have been a great source of encouragement for local Soka Movements all over the world. Your local chapter in Sinagpore is working towards that end — promoting the well-being of peoples locally and thus contributing to peace.

On behalf of my fellow Singaporeans, I wish you many more years of good health, and success in leading the Soka Movement in the various humanitarian missions that the Soka Gakkai International and its branches abroad are undertaking.

Yours sincerely,
S R Nathan

Sensei’s Reply

January 31, 2008

Ikeda Sensei received the gift from Hougang and Sengkang Zone for his 80th birthday!
(A DVD of the Mentor & Disciple Festival and a framed poster showing the pictures of the 3 presidents of Soka Gakkai.)

Sensei also replied with a message:

“I have received the DVD and frame. Thank you and please send my regards to all.”

When we engrave our mentor’s heart and spirit in our lives, and carry out kosen-rufu with the same high life force, perseverance and joy, we will definitely be close to Sensei. And that is when the Mentor & Disciple Spirit will start to crystallize.

See here for more information about the Mentor & Disciple Festival! 🙂

“There are those who build a path, and those who tear it down. There are those who continue to walk a path, and those who stray from it. I wish to be a person who forges a path; a person who persists in walking a path.

No matter what; until the end, I will keep walking, keep running. Even if I should fall along the way, and return to the dust of the land, because I believe in the youth who will succeed me along this path, I will have not a single regret.”

Tell us your 2008 Resolutions!

January 30, 2008

Hi everyone!,

Please share your resolutions for 2008 with us here! 🙂

Allow me to share a Sensei’s guidance from Words of Wisdom:

When your determination changes, everything will begin to move in the direction you desire. The moment you resolve to be victorious, every nerve and fiber in your being will immediately orient itself toward your success. On the other hand, if you think, “This is never going to work out,” then at that instant every cell in your being will be deflated and give up the fight. Then everything really will move in the direction of failure.
